Written answers

From 3 July this year, under the provisions of the Single Use Plastics Directive, single use plastic cutlery, plates, straws, balloon and cotton bud sticks may not be placed on the Irish market. This also applies to expanded polystyrene cups and food containers and all products containing oxo-degradable plastic.

Final clarification is awaited from the EU Commission in relation to the use of stocks on hand prior to 3 July.
