View answerThere is a large body of consistent national and international surveillance and research evidence to indicate that the risk of hospitalisation and death from COVID-19 increases sharply in older age groups and in patients with certain underlying conditions. Surveillance of COVID-19 in Ireland, including the collection of age-specific risk of hospitalisation and death data, is an executive function of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) in the HSE.
As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
