View answerThe Government continues to advise against all non-essential international travel. Travel restrictions are designed to protect public health and to mitigate the risk of new variants of COVID-19 entering the country. Several Government Departments are involved in preparatory discussions towards the restart of international travel, including in relation to the EU’s proposed system of Digital Green Certs. The Government will decide when the time is right to lift the current advice on non-essential travel, in line with these developments, the rollout of Ireland’s vaccination programme and overall public health advice. A roadmap for the re-opening of international travel will be considered in the coming weeks.
