Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth the recipients of the €450,000 allocated to the local authorities play and recreation grant fund for the refurbishment and development of playgrounds and play areas by county in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. This scheme, introduced in 2013, provides capital funding to support the development of new recreation facilities for children and young people, and for the refurbishment of existing play and recreation facilities and incorporation of natural play elements.
The scheme is operated via Local Authorities and this year’s scheme was opened to applications from Local Authorities on April 1, with a closing date of April 22. There was an exceptionally high-level of demand this year, with the allocated fund of €450,000 oversubscribed by some 98%.
