Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications his Department's position on the use of nuclear power to meet future low-carbon energy requirements; if he has considered amending the Electricity Regulation Act 1999 to allow for the use of nuclear power; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Nuclear powered electricity generation plants are prohibited in Ireland. The Government has no plans to revisit the prohibition on, or explore the development of, nuclear powered electricity generation in Ireland.
