608. Deputy Jim O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons who were successfully prosecuted for public order offences in the Garda R district within Dublin metropolitan region in 2021 and to date in 2022, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, under Irish law criminal investigations can only be carried out by An Garda Síochána, who then submit a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP, who operates independently of me and my Department, then decides whether or not someone should be prosecuted and for what crime.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that the table below shows the number of charges and summons associated with Public Order incidents in the Garda R District (Coolock District) during 2021 and to date in 2022.
