Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if his attention has been drawn to a situation in Ratoath, County Meath in which a large supply of houses cannot be released into the housing market due to a shortage in water supply; if this is an issue being experienced in other counties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerSince 1 January 2014, Irish Water has statutory responsibility for all aspects of water services planning, delivery and operation at national, regional and local levels. The scope, prioritisation and progression of individual projects is a matter for Irish Water, and is approved through its own internal governance structures.
However, in general Irish Water is delivering a good service in connecting housing developments. For example, in 2021, Irish Water issued 4,515 connection offers associated with 32,404 housing units. There were only 170 connection refusals associated with 271 housing units that did not meet the criteria for approval.
The issue mentioned in the question has not been raised with my Department. However, I will ask my officials to forward the question to Irish Water for direct reply to the Deputy.
