Questions (125)

Alan Kelly

Question:

125. Deputy Alan Kelly asked the Minister for Transport further to Parliamentary Question No. 191 of 5 April 2022, (details supplied) if he will intervene to make specific, ring-fenced funding available in the 2023 IMMAC to begin the long-overdue process of automating the manual level crossings on this line; and if the line is to fulfil its obvious potential as a commuter line between Nenagh and Limerick which needs to happen. As the Deputy is aware, the Infrastructure Manager Multi-Annual Contract (IMMAC) provides the funding framework for the protection and renewal of our railway infrastructure, including the Ballybrophy to Limerick rail line and level crossings on that line.

As stated in my response to the Deputy's previous question (Question No. 124 of 4th May), under the IMMAC Iarnród Éireann's Infrastructure Manager drafts an annual work programme in October each year. Accordingly, the funding allocations for 2023 will not be finalised until later this year.
