Researcher in residence Dr Cormac Ó Coileáin

Dr Cormac Ó Coileáin spent three months as researcher in residence with us under the SFI Public Service Fellowship Programme. During his time with us, Dr Ó Coileáin studied the economic, social and ethical implications of the use of nanotechnology.

Read Dr Ó Coileáin's research paper published at the end of his residency with the Oireachtas L&RS. It provides an overview of sectors, such as manufacturing, medicine and agri-food, where the use of nanotechnology and nanomaterials are likely to have a significant impact and considers the challenges associated with the technology and its materials.

Dr Cormac Ó Coileáin is a research fellow in the Architecture and Synthesis of Integrated Nanostructures (ASIN) research group, based in the Advanced Materials and BioEngineering Research (AMBER) centre and the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN), Trinity College Dublin. He has a background in physics and sustainable development and is interested in understanding how the dialogue between scientific experts and legislators can be improved to aid informed decision making.
