After a break of some years, representatives from all the main political parties of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Houses of the Oireachtas gathered in September 2024 in County Louth for the ninth plenary session of the North/South Inter-Parliamentary Association (NSIPA).

The Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl, chaired the plenary session with his Co-Chair, Speaker Edwin Poots MLA. Membership of the assembly is drawn in equal numbers from the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Houses of the Oireachtas.

The establishment of such an inter-parliamentary forum was envisaged in the Good Friday Agreement (1998) and the St Andrew’s Agreement (2006). NSIPA held its first meeting in the Seanad Chamber, Leinster House on 12 October 2012.
