The Royal Irish Academy/Houses of the Oireachtas conference 'Dáil Éireann: the first 100 years, 1919–2019' took place today in the Royal Irish Academy at 19 Dawson St.

The conference was the first event to take place as part of the Houses of the Oireachtas' year-long celebration and commemoration of 100 years of Dáil Éireann. Panellists included academics, journalists, historians and current parliamentarians. Discussions at the one-day conference focused on:

  • Origins and Consolidation: 1919–45
  • Evolution and developments: 1945–PRESENT
  • Staying relevant: The Dáil in its second century
  • Public perceptions of Dáil Éireann: 100 years later

Full details of the conference proceedings are outlined in the programme.  The conference was recorded by Oireachtas TV and edited proceedings will be broadcast on Oireachtas TV and made available online later in December.
