25 Feb 2019, 16.53

Children's toys ddating from the 19th century

Workers on the conservation and restoration of Leinster House have discovered artefacts including children’s toys, tickets and sea shells.

The objects have been recorded and examined, and they will go on display in Leinster House at a later date.

The conservation and restoration of historic Leinster House is being carried out by the Office of Public Works (OPW). As well as essential structural strengthening of the building, the works include rewiring Leinster House to modern standards and upgrading fire resistance measures. The historic windows, shutters, joinery and stone work all need repairs. The original entrance door to Leinster lawn will be reinstated and the existing portico demolished.
