The Oireachtas Library & Research Service (L&RS) has published a note on mandatory sentences. The note follows the recent Supreme Court judgment in the case of Wayne Ellis v. Minister for Justice and Equality.
The decision has raised important issues regarding the roles of the Oireachtas and the courts in respect of sentencing. The L&RS Note analyses the decision and examines the implications for the future of legislation providing for mandatory sentences.
