Deputy Catherine Connolly has been elected Leas-Cheann Comhairle of the 33rd Dáil.
Deputy Connolly is the first woman to hold office as Ceann Comhairle or Leas-Cheann Comhairle in Dáil Éireann.
The Deputy was elected as the candidate in a secret ballot. The other nominee was Deputy Fergus O’Dowd. Deputy Connolly’s election was then approved by Dáil Éireann.
