Six scientific researchers have been seconded to the Houses of the Oireachtas Library & research Service (L&RS) under the SFI Public Service Fellowship programme.

The programme is giving 12 academic researchers a unique opportunity to be seconded to Government Departments, agencies and the L&RS to work on specific collaborative research projects. The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, TD, announced the research awards at a virtual press launch on Thursday, 22 October. The projects represent a total grant funding in excess of €700,000. The projects were created to foster innovation and collaboration between the research community and public sector.

The researchers seconded to the L&RS will study geothermal energy in Ireland and the economic, social and ethical implications of artificial intelligence and big data, drones, lawtech in the Irish legal services market, nanotechnology and health technology.
