
St Brigid’s Day celebrations began with a showcase of traditional music and crafts from school pupils at Leinster House.
The Ceann Comhairle, Verona Murphy TD hosted the event in on Thursday, 30 January in the coffee dock, LH2000. The talented pupils from Danescastle National School, Carrig on Bannow, County Wexford filled the air with music as they sang a selection of songs and played traditional songs on instruments including a button accordion, fiddle, tin whistle, and harp, much to the delight of those gathered.

In attendance were members of the Irish Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, Members of both Houses of the Oireachtas, the diplomatic corps, students and teachers from Danescastle National School, Carrig on Bannow, Co. Wexford and staff of the Oireachtas.
The Ceann Comhairle will opened the event with a short welcome address to the guests that were in attendance. The performance was applauded by the large audience that filled LH2000.
Following the performance guests were invited to partake in a St. Brigid’s cross-making workshop where they were guided by the students to weave St. Brigid’s crosses using rushes from Co. Wexford.
