Participants of an EU project spent the day at Leinster House to gain a a better understanding of how democracy works.
More than 60 young people from Monaghan and Cavan spent the day in Leinster House learning how parliament and democracy works.
The group is part of a European project (named FUTU4U) that aims to help young people learn about democracy. Monaghan County Libraries are leading the project in Ireland working with partners in Finland, Italy and Slovenia.

The parliamentary education unit welcomed the group to the Houses of the Oireachtas. Students from Monaghan Institute, Cavan Institute, Youthreach Kingscourt, the National Learning Network Monaghan and Monaghan County Libraries got a tour of Leinster House and attended a workshop led by Parliamentary Education Officer, Dr Conor Reale.

After lunch there were opportunities for photos with Matt Carthy TD and then a visit to the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland, in Chatham Street, Dublin 2. There they saw the Europa Experience about how the EU works and how the decisions taken by the European Parliament, Commission and Council affect people in Ireland.
