Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to visit National Broadband rollout sites

18 Oct 2021, 17:20

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 October, observe the deployment of the National Broadband project during a site visit to National Broadband Ireland (NBI) facilities in Dublin and Wicklow.

Members of the Committee will visit NBI’s offices in Citywest, Dublin, followed by a multi-site field trip to the Blessington Deployment Area in Co Wicklow.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “The Committee received an update last month from National Broadband Ireland on the rollout of the fibre project across the country and Members were invited to visit a deployment site to see the progress being made to see the works underway. We look forward to seeing for ourselves the work being done to bring high speed broadband to areas of the country which currently have weak connections or no service at all.

“We are interested in seeing first-hand the work involved in the development of this critical national infrastructure by NBI and its partners, together with their plans to make up for the delays which have set the project back between six and eight months to date.”

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
