Leinster House will open its doors this Saturday, 10th October 2015 for the Association of CSPE Teachers’ annual conference, which will be held in the Seanad chamber.

The conference is being facilitated in Leinster House in order to coincide with the official launch of the Oireachtas Online Education Programme.
The Seanad chamber has been offered to CSPE teachers as a unique initiative of Seanad Éireann, in the spirit of promoting democracy by providing a forum for CSPE teachers to learn about the new Online Education programme.
Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Senator Paddy Burke, says, “The launch of the Online Education Programme represents an exciting step in our aim to promote public understanding and perception of the parliament. The objective of the online resource is to provide relevant and up-to-date information to all students about our parliamentary and political system. This particular programme has been designed for Junior Certificate CSPE students, but I believe all visitors can increase their knowledge of the Irish political system by utilising this free resource.”
“As such, Seanad Éireann are delighted to welcome the Association of CSPE teachers to Leinster House as part of the launch. As the teachers who will be utilising this resource in classrooms across the country, their presence in Leinster House for the launch is hugely significant. It is my hope that this new online resource will contribute towards developing in our young people an appreciation of the democratic process, as well as encouraging their engagement with their political system.”
This is the first time that the Seanad chamber has been opened to an event of this kind, and the fact that the chamber has been made available is a unique Seanad initiative.
As Chairman of the Oireachtas Commission, Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD, will officially launch the Online Education programme on Saturday morning.
