12 Oct 2015, 15:43

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality is inviting public submissions on the Employment Equality (Abolition of Mandatory Retirement Age) Bill 2014.

12th October 2015

The Bill was first published by Deputy Anne Ferris in April 2014.

The Employment Equality (Abolition of Mandatory Retirement Age) Bill 2014 was introduced by Deputy Anne Ferris on Friday, 9th October and the Bill was subsequently referred to the Committee.

The Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality is now inviting written submissions from interested groups or individuals in relation to the Bill, accessible here.

Deputy Ferris says: “The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Employment Equality Act of 1998 to abolish mandatory retirement ages for persons able and willing to continue in the role for which they were employed. However, the Bill provides certain exceptions for security related areas such as An Garda Síochána. This Bill also will also address the growing anomaly whereby people are retiring at 65 but have to wait a year or longer to receive access to State pensions.\"

Written submissions should be sent electronically by email (MS Word or equivalent) and should be received not later than 3pm on Friday 6th November 2015 at the following email address only: retirementage@oireachtas.ie

Have your say and make a submission.
