The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will tomorrow meet to conduct a two-part meeting to further consider the rising cost of motor insurance in Ireland.

Session A will see presentations from the Irish Road Haulage Association, the Irish Taxi Drivers’ Federation, the Car Rental Council and the Freight Transport Association Ireland.

Session B will then see presentations from representatives of the Law Society of Ireland and The Council of the Bar of Ireland.

The meeting will commence at 11.00 am in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, 13 September 2016.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD, said “Following on from last week’s hearings we will now have the chance to meet with those that use our roads commercially. The rising cost of motor insurance impacts directly on their ability to earn a living and so we welcome this opportunity to hear the views and opinions of the Road Haulage Association, Taxi Drivers’ Federation, Car Rental Council and Freight Transport Association.”

“We will also have the chance to meet with representatives of the legal sector. This timely discussion with representatives of the Law Society and the Council of the Bar will feed directly into last week’s hearings where committee Members sought to address the reasons behind the spiralling cost of motor insurance, including the value of compensation awards.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
