Dr Sara Burke and the Seanad Civil Engagement Group will appear before the Committee on the Future of Healthcare tomorrow, Wednesday, 5 October 2016.

The schedule for the meeting is:

Session A: 9am

Inequality and access to healthcare – Dr Sara Burke, Research Fellow, Centre for Health Policy and Management, TCD

Session B: 11am

Citizen-centred approach to Integrated Care - Senators Frances Black, John Dolan and Colette Kelleher from the Seanad Civil Engagement Group

Chair of the Committee, Roisin Shortall, says: “Sara Burke is a journalist, broadcaster and health policy analyst. She is a research fellow in the Centre for Health Policy and Management in Trinity College Dublin and is the author of 'Irish Apartheid. Healthcare Inequality in Ireland'. Given her work in the area of health policy, we will be particularly interested in getting her views on how to successfully introduce a long-term reform plan and bring about the change required for creating a universal, high-quality health system.

“Following this meeting, we will hear from Senators Frances Black, John Dolan and Colette Kelleher from the Seanad Civil Engagement Group. They will be discussing recommendations on how the Irish healthcare system can be recast to become a citizen-centred, universal, single-tier healthcare system that adequately meets the needs of the Irish people.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 4, Leinster House from 9am on Wednesday, 5 October 2016.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
