Minister Noonan to appear before Finance Committee on Ombudsman Legislation

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Thursday 27th October 2016 at 9:30am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

26th October 2016

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

•    Scrutiny on the General Scheme of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Bill 2016 and;

•    The Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland (Amendment) Bill 2014 [PMB] – Deputy Pearse Doherty

•    Session A: 10 a.m. [Mr Michael Noonan TD, Minister for Finance]; and

•    Session B: 11.30 a.m. [Representatives of the Financial Services Ombudsman's Bureau and Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC)].

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD, said, “Tomorrow, in another new departure, the Committee will scrutinise proposed government legislation in conjunction with another Opposition Bill, under new rules agreed as part of Dáil Reform measures.”

“The meeting will be an opportunity for the Committee to engage with the Minister for Finance on the Draft Heads of the legislation and also to compare and analyse Deputy Doherty's proposed legislation. It is hoped that such consideration would result in more effective legislation.”
