Health Committee to discuss the National Maternity Strategy

18 Jan 2017, 16:45

18 January 2017

The Joint Committee on Health will tomorrow meet to consider the National Maternity Strategy 2016 – 2026 with representatives of the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (IOG) and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 19 January 2017.

Committee Chairman, Dr. Michael Harty TD, said “The National Maternity Strategy is an important document that sets out a roadmap for an improvement to services for women, families and fathers. It is important to recognise that the maternity services currently in place are of a good standard but service deficits do exist and we look forward to hearing more from the bodies involved about how the four strategic priorities, identified in this report, are being implemented.”

“This strategy proposes a fundamental overhaul of services - towards and integrated, team based care model - and we welcome the opportunity to hear how this impacts upon those represented by the HSE, IOG and the INMO.”

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
