Future Funding of Domestic Water Services Committee to discuss public ownership of water services

The Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services will continue its hearings tomorrow, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 when it meets with officials from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and Seamus Ó Tuathail, SC and Treasa Brannick ÓCillín.

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Ó Céidigh said: “Public ownership of the water system will be on the Committee’s agenda tomorrow when it resumes consideration of the report of the Expert Commission. As part of the overall approach to settling the issues addressed in the report, the Expert Commission recommended that the adoption of a suitable constitutional provision on public ownership of water services be more fully addressed by the Committee as part of our deliberations. The Committee will engage with officials from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government as well as Seamus Ó Tuathail, SC and Treasa Brannick ÓCillín on this issue at our meeting tomorrow.”
