31 January 2017

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will meet tomorrow to resume their considerations of the current financial situation within Bus Éireann, and the future of the Expressway Service, with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD.

The meeting will commence at 3.00pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 February 2017

Committee Chairman, Brendan Griffin TD, said “At our meeting last week we heard of the grave financial realities facing Bus Éireann and how this could impact those living in rural areas, in particular. The fears that are being voiced about any possible disruption to the transport service are very real and, as a Committee, we welcome the opportunity to engage with Minister Ross on this pressing matter.”

“The most recent developments have led to heightened fears that strike action is a very real possibility and we now welcome this timely opportunity to hear from Minister Ross on how he sees resolution being achieved. There is no question that urgent action is required, through the relevant industrial relations mechanisms, to protect workers’ rights, achieve efficiency within Bus Éireann and avoid widespread disruption to the public.”
