Future Funding of Domestic Water Services Committee to examine water provision in other jurisdictions

7 Feb 2017, 14:26

The Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services will resume its hearings tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 when it meets with representatives from Scottish Water; Welsh Water and the Commission for Energy Regulation.

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Ó Céidigh said: “According to the report of the Expert Commission, the water network infrastructure in Ireland is fragmented for the size of the population. Ireland has a large number of public and private supplies for a relatively small population compared to other EU countries. It found that there is general agreement that this deficit in water infrastructure needs to be addressed, not least given the social, environmental, and economic costs of failing to do so. As we seek to address this situation, it is therefore appropriate that the Committee should examine experience of other jurisdictions in relation to the supply of water and waste water services. Tomorrow, we will hear from representatives from Scottish Water; Welsh Water and the Commission for Energy Regulation.”

The Joint Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services will meet in Committee Room 4, at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 8 February 2017. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
