Future Funding of Domestic Water Services Committee to focus on metering

13 Feb 2017, 11:03

The Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services will focus on metering when it meets with representatives from the Commission for Energy Regulation and Irish Water tomorrow, Tuesday, 14 February 2017.”

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Ó Céidigh said: “The report of the Expert Commission said that the question of whether to continue the metering programme was one of policy and was outside its terms of reference. However, it added that if it is decided to proceed with the metering programme, consideration should be given to an approach that is more aligned with the proposals in its report, with a focus on metering of buildings in the case of multi-occupancy or metering of households on request. It also said that Irish Water should complete a comprehensive programme of district metering to identify system-wide leakage and manage the network. Tomorrow, we will examine the issue of metering in greater detail with representatives from the Commission for Energy Regulation and Irish Water.”

The Joint Committee on the Future Funding of Domestic Water Services will meet in Committee Room 4, at 12 noon on Tuesday, 14 February 2017. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
