Finance Select Committee to take Committee Stage of Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland (Amendment) Bill 2014

10 May 2017, 10:21

The Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 11 May at 9.30am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

The Select Committee will consider the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland (Amendment) Bill 2014, a Private Members Bill proposed by Mr. Pearse Doherty TD. The Bill aims to make it easier for customers to make complaints against their financial institution and places greater pressure on the financial service provider to engage in the mediation to resolve disputes. The Bill proposes to allow consumers to make a complaint within two years of becoming aware of an issue, rather than the current blanket six year rule. It also proposes to facilitate appeals to the Circuit Court rather than the High Court.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
