Health Committee to examine the uptake of vaccinations in Ireland

The Joint Committee on Health will tomorrow meet to discuss the uptake levels for vaccinations in Ireland. The Committee will hear from representatives from the Department of Health, the HSE, the National Immunisation Office, the Health Products Regulatory Authority, the National Immunisation Advisory Committee and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 11 May 2017.

Committee Chairman Dr. Michael Harty TD said “Tomorrow, as a Committee, we will have the opportunity to meet with those with expert medical and policy knowledge of the practice of vaccination, and vaccination programmes, in Ireland. There is no question that these programmes have saved lives through their administration, but it is increasingly important that all of the facts are brought to the table in informing current debate, around their safety and effectiveness in particular. Tomorrow, we will take the opportunity to meet with a broad range of experts in their field, to explore the practice and discuss the uptake levels in Ireland.”

The Committee will also engage in Scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: Schedule B: COM(2017)16
