Health Committee to discuss issues surrounding the regulation of medical scanning services

The Committee will also meet with the chair designate of the National Cancer Registry Board and National Treatment Purchase Fund

The Joint Committee on Health will tomorrow conduct a three part meeting with the following agenda:

Session A: 1.30 p.m. Engagement with the Chair Designate of the National Cancer Registry Board - Mr. Jerome Coffey
Session B: 2.30 p.m. Engagement with the Chair Designate of the National Treatment Purchase Fund - Mr. John Horan
Session C: 3.30 p.m. Issues in relation to Medical Scanning Services - Professor Sean Daly, Consultant Obstetrician, Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital

The meeting will commence at 1.30pm in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Wednesday, 31 May 2017.

Committee Chairman Dr. Michael Harty TD said “In the course of our meeting tomorrow we will have the opportunity to engage with the Chairs Designate of both the National Cancer Registry Board and National Treatment Purchase Fund. We will also meet with Professor Daly to discuss Medical Scanning Services, specifically the lack of regulation in their provision. We will focus primarily on the use of ultrasound in the practice of gynaecology, the infertility services and obstetric ultrasound.”

“Following our meeting tomorrow, a decision will be taken by the Minister for Health to confirm Mr. Coffey as Chairperson of the National Cancer Registry Board and Mr. Horan as Chairperson of the National Treatment Purchase Fund. We look forward to contributing towards an open debate and assisting the Minister in his decision.”
