Foreign Affairs Committee to meet with the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine to discuss the current situation in the region

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence will tomorrow meet with Mrs. Olena Shaloput, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Ukraine, to discuss the current situation in the region.

The meeting will commence at 10.00am in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Thursday, 22 June 2017.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Smith TD, said “Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to meet with Mrs. Shaloput to discuss the current situation in Ukraine. Members will look to hear, first hand, the reality on the ground in the republic of Crimea, Sevastopol and Ukraine generally, following the recent unrest in the region. More specifically, Members will address the reports of human rights violations in Crimea, the militarisation of the region and the effects of sanctions which have been introduced against Russia.”

"The Minsk Peace Process will also form part of the agenda tomorrow where we will discuss Russian-led action in the region and how this has affected the viability of the Minsk Agreements. There is no doubt that stability and peace in the region will only be achieved through dialogue and respect between all parties involved and we welcome the opportunity to once again offer our support in this regard.”
