Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs to meet with An Taisce, the Heritage Council & Oideas Gael 4 July 2017

4 Jul 2017, 10:07

Preserving Ireland’s national heritage – its fauna, flora and unique habitats will be on the agenda of the Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht tomorrow, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 when it meets with An Taisce, the Heritage Council and Oideas Gael.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “Ireland is rightfully renowned throughout the world for its unspoilt countryside and for having landscapes and areas of natural beauty that are home to a variety of wildlife and an array of flora and fauna. It is important that we preserve and protect our natural heritage for now and for the benefit of future generations. Tomorrow we will meet with representatives from An Taisce, the charity that works to preserve and protect Ireland’s natural and built heritage; the Heritage Council which engages, educates and advocates to develop a wider understanding of the contribution that our heritage makes to our social, environmental and economic well-being; and Oideas Gael, an organisation based in the Donegal Gaeltacht that that organises a number of nature based activities through the medium of the Irish language, to discuss their roles in promoting the conservation of our country’s nature and biodiversity.”

This meeting will start at 2.15pm, tomorrow, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
