Committee on the Eighth Amendment resumes focus on health care issues

The Oireachtas Committee on the Eight Amendment will continue to focus on health care issues at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 25 October 2017.

The agenda for the meeting is:

Session A - Risks to Mental Health [Professor Veronica O’Keane, Professor of Psychiatry, TCD]

Session B - Termination arising from rape [Mr. Tom O’Malley S.C., Senior Lecturer in Law, NUIG; Ms. Noeline Blackwell, Chief Executive Officer, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre; and Dr. Maeve Eogan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Rotunda Hospital]

Session C - Termination in cases of Foetal Abnormality [Mr. Gerry Edwards, Chair, and Ms. Claire Cullen-Delsol, Termination for Medical Reasons Ireland]

Senator Catherine Noone, Chair of the Committee said: “Tomorrow, the Committee will resume its hearings on healthcare issues as part of our hearings on the recommendations contained in the report from the Citizen’s assembly. Improved access to reproductive healthcare services and support facilities were among the recommendations in the report. We will examine the issues in relation to risks to mental health, termination arising from rape and termination in the cases of Foetal Abnormality.”

This meeting will take place in Committee 3 at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 25 October 2017. Watch proceedings here.
