Health Committee to conduct PLS on Children’s Health Bill 2017

24 Oct 2017, 15:14

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow at 9.00am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

The meeting will see the Committee conduct Pre-Legislative Scrutiny on the General Scheme of the Children’s Health Bill 2017.

Officials from the Department of Health; and Ms. Eilísh Hardiman, Chief Executive Officer, Children’s Hospital Group, will appear before the Committee.

The Bill proposes to enable the Minister for Health to establish a new body corporate, which will amalgamate Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Temple Street  and Tallaght Children’s Hospital.

Committee Chair, Dr Michael Harty TD, said, “The bill we are looking at tomorrow will allow the new hospital to enter into joint ventures to manage relationships with academic partners, pursue philanthropic activities, fundraise, and buy and sell property.  It is hoped that the voluntary merger of the three hospitals will enhance paediatric services nationally.”
