Committee on the Eighth Amendment to focus on health care issues & international legal/services context

The Oireachtas Committee on the Eight Amendment will focus on health care issues and international legal/services context at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 November 2017.

The agenda for the meeting is:

Session A: International Legal/Services Context [Dr. Gilda Sedgh, Principal Research Scientist, The Guttmacher Institute; Ms. Leah Hoctor, Regional Director for Europe, Center for Reproductive Rights]
Session B: Medical Law Review [Dr. Ruth Fletcher, Senior Lecturer in Medical Law from Queen Mary University in London]
Session C: Risks to Mental Health [Dr. Anthony Mc Carthy, Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist, National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street]

Senator Catherine Noone, Chair of the Committee said: “Tomorrow, the Committee will resume its hearings on the report and recommendations of the Citizens Assembly on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. In our first session we will consider the international legal/services context with Dr Gilda Sedgh, Principal Research Scientist, Guttmacher Institute and Leah Hoctor, Regional Director for Europe, Center for Reproductive Rights. Session B will review the Medical Law with Dr Ruth Fletcher, Senior Lecturer in Medical Law, Queen Mary University in London. In our final session, we will consider further evidence on the risks to mental health from Dr Anthony McCarthy, Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist, National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.”
