Minister & Department of Health Secretary General before Health Committee on Sláintecare Report

21 Nov 2017, 16:20

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow to discuss the implementation of the recommendations made in the Sláintecare Report.

Simon Harris TD Minister for Health and Mr. Jim Breslin, Secretary General of the Department of Health will appear before the Committee.

Committee Chair, Dr Michael Harty TD, said, “The Committee on the Future of Healthcare published its Sláintecare Report earlier this year. That Committee heard evidence from experts, medics and patient groups and agreed a plan for ensuring an affordable, universal,  single-tier  healthcare system  in  which  patients  are  treated  promptly  on  the  basis  of  need,  rather  than ability to pay. Minister Harris has stated publicly that the Slaintecare report provides the government with a solid framework to move forward. The Government has given its approval to move ahead with the establishment of a Sláintecare programme office and the Committee is anxious to know when exactly this office will be operational and how independent it can be. We are keen to ensure that the government acts without delay to begin the process of reforming the Irish healthcare system for the benefit of all citizens.”

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 3 at 9am.
