Business, Enterprise & Innovation Committee to discuss Cost of doing Business with financial providers

29 Jan 2018, 11:44

The Joint Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation will meet tomorrow at 4pm in CR4, Leinster House. The Committee will return to its examination of the cost of doing business in Ireland.

Representatives from the following will appear before the Committee:

•    Banking & Payments Federation;
•    Allied Irish Bank;
•    Bank of Ireland;
•    Irish League of Credit Unions;
•    Credit Union Managers Association;
•    Credit Union Development Association;
•    Sparkassen;
•    Irish Rural Link.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Mary Butler TD, said, “Securing and maintaining finance is one of the biggest obstacles facing old and new businesses in Ireland. Businesses use a variety of sources to finance their work, including state grants, personal savings and loans.  Small and medium-sized businesses still consider access to finance to be a major concern and this is what our meeting will focus on tomorrow, particularly in our session with the Irish lenders. The costs associated with banking and obtaining affordable credit is another issue of concern for SMEs which will be discussed at the meeting.  We will then look at how other models of finance could be considered here and discuss prospective avenues of finance with our witnesses in the latter part of the meeting.
