Business, Enterprise & Innovation Committee to receive update on Brexit negotiations

26 Feb 2018, 15:33

The Joint Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation will meet tomorrow at 4pm in CR4, Leinster House.  Representatives from Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and InterTrade Ireland will be before the Committee to provide an update on preparations for Brexit.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Mary Butler TD said, “Last year, the Committee published its ‘Report on the likely impact of Brexit with particular emphasis on Jobs and Enterprise. As part of the report, the Committee agreed that it would revisit developments as Brexit negotiations evolved, particularly because the eventual outcome of the Brexit negotiations is a critical issue for Irish business. Tomorrow the Committee will meet to discuss the progress that has been made by our witnesses in developing plans to counter the negative effect of Brexit on Irish business. Solutions must be forthcoming and it is incumbent upon us all to do more than just state and restate the risks. We look forward to engaging with the witnesses on their strategies for attracting FDI; supporting and protecting regional businesses and assisting job creation.”

Prior to this, the Committee will conduct Scrutiny of EU Proposals Schedule A: COM(2017) 795 (compliance with and enforcement of Union harmonisation legislation).
