27 Feb 2018, 14:10

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow to resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) on the General Scheme of the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill 2017.

The meeting will start at 9am in CR3.

The following witnesses will appear:

•    Dr. John Waterstone, President, Irish Fertility Society;
•    Professor Mary Wingfield, Merrion Fertility Clinic;
•    Dr. John Kennedy, Medical Director, National Fertility Centre.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Dr Michael Harty TD said today, “AHR is one of the most rapidly advancing fields of medicine and infertility is something that affects many Irish people. Our witnesses tomorrow are all experts in their field and we welcome the opportunity to engage with them on the provision of fertility services and specifically, what measures should be taken to protect the health and rights of parents, donors, surrogates and children born as a result of AHR treatment. The Committee will examine many issues that may include egg and sperm donation; the age limit for treatment; counselling provision and pre-implantation genetic screening.”
