Health Committee to receive quarterly update from Minister Harris

8 May 2018, 14:30

Minister Simon Harris will be before the Health Committee on Wednesday, 9th of May to give its members a quarterly update on health matters. The Minister will be accompanied by  Tony O' Brien, Director General of the HSE, as well as officials and representatives from the Department of Health and the HSE.

Chairperson of the Health Committee, Dr Michael Harty TD said today, “The purpose of this meeting is to engage with the Minister for Health, Deputy Simon Harris, and the Health Service Executive on a number of health issues. The Committee will be seeking updates on how the health service is being delivered nationally, including in relation to the overall funding position. Obviously, the ongoing controversy surrounding Cervical Check is still a matter of serious concern to the Committee and is likely to be raised again as the issue unfolds. The Health Committee will be anxious to question the Minister regarding the prolonged delay in providing the Government’s response to cross party Sláintecare report on Health Service reform. Many deadlines in that report have passed and there is concern in the Committee that Minister Harris reluctant to wholeheartedly engage in the necessary reforms outlined in the report.”

The meeting will start at 9am in Committee Room3.
