9 May 2018, 18:31

A delegation from the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport and a number of local TDs today Wednesday 9 May, visited Na Fianna GAA Club, Home Farm FC, Scoil Chaitríona and Scoil Mobhí in Glasnevin as part of its hearings into the impact of MetroLink construction on local amenities.

The delegation included Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD, Committee members Kevin O’Keeffe TD, Noel Rock TD, Robert Troy TD; Senator Pádraig Ó Céidigh, Senator John O’Mahony and local TDs Róisín Shorthall and Dessie Ellis.

Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd said: “The Committee had a very useful and informative meeting with representatives from Na Fianna GAA club in Glasnevin, Home Farm Football Club in Whitehall, Scoil Mobhí primary school and Scoil Chaitríona secondary school to hear their concerns about the potential impact of the construction of Metrolink on communities and local amenities in the Glasnevin area. It was an opportunity for Committee members to see first-hand the area where construction is proposed and the likely scale of the project to assess how it could affect communities on the planned route. While we recognise the importance of having a modern, efficient transport network, it is also important that we hear all voices so that the construction of vital infrastructure impacts as lightly as possible on the social and community fabric of the areas it is designed to serve.”
