Ministers to discuss community programmes, increased allocations at Rural & Community Development Committee

16 May 2018, 13:11

The minister and minister of state responsible for rural and community development will field questions today from the Joint Committee on Rural and Community Development at 4:30 p.m. in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Wednesday’s speakers are:

• Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring, and
• Minister of State for Natural Resources, Community Affairs and Digital Development Seán Kyne.

Topics include government spending commitments and planned allocations for a wide range of activities, in particular the significantly increased funding being made available in 2018 for community development projects.

“Rural and Community Development is a new government department with many important programmes under its remit,” said Committee Chairman Joe Carey TD. “Committee members will be interested to learn more about how towns and villages in need of job-creating facilities, modernised infrastructure and new amenities are tapping available funding for 2018 and what more can be done to encourage the most effective disbursement of these funds.”

Committee proceedings also can be viewed live on Android and Apple devices using the Houses of the Oireachtas app.
