Union, business views on Budget 2019 to be heard by Budgetary Oversight Committee

The Select Committee on Budgetary Oversight is gathering a broad range of views on Budget 2019 from labour union and business leaders at its Tuesday meeting.

Witnesses scheduled to speak after 4 p.m. in Committee Room 3 include:

  • Patricia King, general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions;
  • Mary Rose Burke, chief executive of Dublin Chamber of Commerce, accompanied by board member Vincent Harrison, who is managing director of Dublin Airport;
  • Neil McDonnell, chief executive of Irish Small and Medium Enterprises;
  • Seán Healy, chief executive of Social Justice Ireland; and
  • Shana Cohen, director of the TASC think tank.

“The Committee is seeking to form a well-rounded package of pre-budget recommendations well in advance of the October unveiling of Budget 2019,” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy. “Tuesday’s meeting, our second focused on this objective, is devoted to hearing the views of key stakeholders and understanding their hopes, concerns and priorities for the coming budget.”
