17 Sep 2018, 02:52

Carolan Lennon, Chief Executive of Eir and Eir’s Director of Regulatory and Public Policy Gary Healy will appear before a meeting of the Communications, Climate Action and Environment Committee on Tuesday, 18 September as it resumes its hearings on broadband installation issues.

Chair of the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “On Tuesday, the Committee will resume its hearings on issues around the installation of broadband when we will meet with Eir. Concerns have been raised over the pace of provision broadband around the country and the time it is taking to roll out fibre and connect homes and businesses, particularly in rural Ireland. The provision of broadband is now one of the most important infrastructure priorities for the State. Access to high speed, reliable fibre broadband can have a variety of positive effects in terms of economic and social development of communities. At our meeting we will have an opportunity to discuss Eir’s investment to date in its provision of broadband services, as well as its plans and investment programme for its network in the coming years.”

The meeting will start at 5pm in Committee Room 2. Before it meets with Eir representatives the Committee will carry out further Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals: COM(2018)340 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment.
