Finance Committee to have Exchange of Views with ECB President Mario Draghi

7 Nov 2018, 15:23

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will discuss the Eurozone’s fiscal and economic outlook with European Central Bank President Mario Draghi on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m.

The Exchange of Views represents a first in terms of Committee engagement with the ECB.

“This meeting can lead to greater interaction and will contribute to increasing citizens’ understanding of the ECB’s role in the Irish and wider EU economy,” said Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD.

“Among topics to be explored are interest rates and inflation, Brexit, European Monetary Union developments, forecasts for Ireland and other Eurozone economies, and macroeconomic issues facing the 19 EU nations that use the euro as their common currency,” Deputy McGuinness said.

“Understanding the ECB’s central role in managing monetary stability and safeguarding the Eurozone from external shocks has never been more essential as Ireland faces the uncertainties of Brexit.”
