Finance Committee to discuss Cost of Insurance Working Group progress report

14 Nov 2018, 15:18

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will discuss the latest progress report from the Cost of Insurance Working Group on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 9:30 a.m.

The Committee will discuss this month’s seventh quarterly report with Minister of State for Financial Services and Insurance, Michael D’Arcy TD, who chairs the Cost of Insurance Working Group.

That Group is tasked with identifying the many factors behind high insurance premiums in Ireland today and proposing policy and legislative remedies. The Committee, which is assessing progress on each of the Group’s recommendations to date, reported independently on the Rising Costs of Motor Insurance in November 2016 before the Working Group was established.

“The Committee, as it monitors progress, is eager to engage with the Minister on the current state of that reform agenda,” said Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD. “We are determined to identify what more needs to happen to bring insurance premiums down to an affordable level for drivers, employers, schools and so many others.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
