28 Nov 2018, 16:05

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will meet tomorrow to discuss the Appropriation Account for Vote 37, Chapters 11, 12 13, 14 and 20 of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Account for the Social Insurance Fund, all for the year ending 2017.

Mr John McKeon, Secretary General of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, will appear before the Committee, along with Officials from the Department. Officials from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection; the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government and the Office of the Revenue Commissions will also be in attendance for the afternoon session.

“Welfare plays a vital role in supporting the most vulnerable members of society and is an important tool for social advancement. Tomorrow, the PAC will examine the accounts of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection and will look at issues such as estimated levels of excess payment for each scheme”, said PAC Chairman, Seán Fleming.

“We will also examine the JobPath activation service and discuss the key findings of the actuarial review of the Social Insurance Fund (SIF). The review’s projections indicate that in the absence of further action to tackle the shortfall, sizeable Exchequer subvention will be required to meet ongoing expenditure requirements.”

The meeting will start at 9am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.
