Justice Committee to consider Bail (Amendment) Bill 2017

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will consider the Bail (Amendment) Bill 2017 on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m.

The Private Members Bill proposes to introduce new grounds for refusing bail conditions and new requirements for electronic monitoring in certain circumstances where bail is granted.

Scheduled witnesses include

  • Bill sponsor Jim O’Callaghan TD
  • Mary Rogan, associate professor in law at Trinity College Dublin
  • Vice Chairperson Joan Deane of AdVIC (Advocates for Victims of Homicide)
  • Executive Director Deirdre Malone of the Irish Penal Reform Trust
