Finance Committee to examine Revenue’s preparations for Brexit

23 Jan 2019, 12:49

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will explore Ireland’s preparations for all Brexit scenarios from a customs and revenue perspective with the Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners, Mr. Niall Cody, on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m.

Separately, the Committee will discuss potential reforms to flat-rate expenses allowances and the impact of bogus self-employment claims.

“It is critical for the Committee to gain an up-to-date picture of Revenue’s capacity to cope with the many logistical and legal challenges facing Ireland in the uncertain months ahead, should Brexit become reality,” said Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD.

“Members look forward to exploring how Revenue is preparing for the possible introduction of new customs and excise protocols, and how to keep our vital trade in goods and services with, and through, the United Kingdom flowing as freely as possible,” Deputy McGuinness said.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
